Article Retraction & Withdrawal

Article Retraction & Withdrawal Policy

It is a fundamental principle of scholarly communication that the Editor of the Indonesian Journal of Orthodontics or proceedings is solely and independently responsible for deciding which articles submitted might be published. This decision is guided by the journal’s editorial board policies and constrained by legal requirements related to slander, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The significance of scholarly archives as permanent historic records of scholarly transactions necessitates that published articles remain extant, exact, and unaltered as far as possible. However, under extraordinary circumstances, situations may arise where an article published must be retracted or removed. Such actions must not be taken lightly, and this policy outlines the procedures for article retraction, withdrawal, removal, and replacement.

Article Retraction:

Articles may be retracted due to scientific errors such as multiple submissions, false authorship claims, plagiarism, or fraudulent use of data. The following conditions apply:

1. A signed statement from the author must be submitted before the article can be retracted.
2. The consent of all the paper authors is required before a retraction can be published.
3. The notification of retraction will be published, and a link to the original article will be clearly marked as retracted.
4. The notification will include the reasons for retraction and who retracted the article.
5. The original article will not be removed from the online version and print journal version but will be identified as a retracted article.
6. Retraction information will also be listed on the content page.

Article Withdrawal:

Article withdrawal is strongly discouraged and only considered in exceptional circumstances, such as an early version of an article accepted for publication but not officially published yet, which may have appeared online. Conditions for withdrawal include:

1. The version may contain errors, may have been posted inadvertently twice, or may violate journal publishing ethics guidelines.
2. Withdrawal will occur only if there is a legal/ethical violation or false/inaccurate data that could pose a risk of harm if used.
3. The initial version of the article will be withdrawn from the electronic platform.
4. Withdrawn content (both HTML and PDF versions) will be replaced with pages stating that the article has been withdrawn in accordance with the Indonesian Journal Publisher’s withdrawal policy.

Note: The author's copyright does not grant the right to withdraw the article after publication, as the integrity of the published scientific records is paramount.

Article Removal:

In extremely limited cases, published articles may need to be removed from the online platform under the following circumstances:

1. The article is clearly defamatory or violates another person’s legal rights.
2. There is a strong reason to expect, being the subject of a court order.
3. The article, if acted upon, may pose a serious health risk.

In such cases, the metadata (i.e., title and author information) of the article will be retained, but the text will be replaced with a screen indicating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.

Article Replacement:

If an article, if followed upon, could pose a serious health risk, the author may wish to recall the original document and replace it with the corrected version. The procedure for replacement will follow the article retraction process, with the difference that the article retraction notification will contain a revised link, and the corrected version will be republished along with the document history.
