Author Guidelines

Writing guideline of Indonesian Journal of Othodontics (InJO)

A. General instructions

Authors must be aware that submitting their work indicates that the content has not been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere, except as a concise abstract in a scientific meeting or symposium. Prior to peer review, all submitted manuscripts undergo a thorough examination and editing checks. The manuscripts undergo scrutiny for both plagiarism and adherence to formatting guidelines. Manuscripts that fail to meet the editorial criteria will be rejected without undergoing peer review. The author of the manuscript bears responsibility for the content of the published manuscript. The editorial staffs possess the authority to modify the document while maintaining its original content intact. The publisher has exclusive ownership of the submitted content and illustration, and it is prohibited to publish them in any other media without official authorization from the publisher. Editors and Authors should exclusively use electronic means for all sorts of contact.

Prior to submission, authors are required to get written and signed agreement from the patient (if relevant) as well as the ethics committee in order to publish the information. Manuscripts that are submitted must clearly state the letter number of this document within the text.

B. Preparing the submission

  1. The document is to be typed in Microsoft Word using a single-column format, Arial font, and should not exceed 10,000 words. The manuscript must include a minimum of 2 Figures/Tables, but should not exceed 15.
  2. The margins should be set to Normal, with a measurement of 2.54cm for the right, left, top, and bottom margins. The spacing should be set to 1.15, and the paper size should be A4, measuring 210 × 297 mm.
  3. Each part of the template shows the font size to be used. Go to “template” section at https://injo.ikorti-iao.com/injo. The initial sentence following the sub-heading lacks indentation. Using bullet points and numbers within the body text is prohibited. Each sentence must be composed as a descriptive paragraph.
  4. When creating the manuscript, authors must avoid duplicating ideas, which is also known as plagiarism, and refrain from conducting redundant research.
  5. When citing, it is necessary to either quote or paraphrase the sentences.
  6. The system of measurement is synonymous with The International System of Units (SI).
  7. Tables: Tables should be self-contained and serve as a complement to, rather than a duplication of, the information in the text. The provision of editable files is preferable to the use of pasted images. Legends should be succinct yet thorough; the table, legend, and footnotes should be comprehensible apart from the text. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: †, ‡, §, ¶, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. The statistical measures, such as standard deviation (SD) or standard error of the mean (SEM), should be clearly indicated in the headers. Tables are assigned consecutive numbers and the table title and number are positioned above the table. Tables should be aligned at the center of the column or page. Tables should be separated by a 12-point line spacing. The elements of a table should be formatted with single spacing. Nevertheless, double spacing might be employed to indicate the categorization of data or to create divisions within the table. The table heads should be formatted in 10-point font size, without the use of bold formatting. Tables are identified in the text by the table number, for example, Table 1. Omit the vertical line in the table. The table should display only a single horizontal line, along with the table heading. Legends should be succinct yet inclusive - the depiction and its accompanying explanation should be easily comprehensible without the need for textual support. Provide definitions for any symbols employed and elucidate all acronyms and units of measurement.
  8. Figures: While it is recommended that writers submit figures of the utmost quality, a diverse range of formats, sizes, and resolutions are permitted for the purpose of peer review. When mentioning figures in the text, please use specific references such as 'Figure 1' or 'Figure 2' to correspond with the tag name assigned to each uploaded figure file. Color figures can be reproduced in their original color when published online. It is recommended that line figures, such as graphs and charts, be provided in black and white to ensure readability when printed by a reader using black and white printing. Line art requires a higher resolution compared to photos in order to accurately portray each individual line. Increasing the size of typefaces enhances readability. Optimal resolution: 600 dots per inch (dpi). Images: While web-based images frequently have low resolutions (72 dpi or lower), users can only derive benefits if the images provide high-resolution detail. Optimal resolution: 300 dots per inch (dpi)
